History
This is the territory of strong and free people, whose courage was appreciated by the ancient romans
After the collapse of the Georgian kingdom in the middle of the XVI century, Upper Svaneti was subordinated to the Imeretian king
In the western part of the valley, an independent domain of the princes Dadeshkeliani was formed and it was called Princely Svaneti. In the rest of the valley there were free societies, and it became known as Free Svaneti
During the Soviet years, the region was actively developing, and now it is experiencing a real renaissance!
